Of course, when embarking upon a new home build architecture and design considerations are of paramount importance. The fireplace for our project needed to fit perfectly with the sleek modern architecture and interior design.
One thing worth noting with all the submittal requirements for architecture and engineering submittals to the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety, is that if the fireplace is not included in the initial permit you get from the city, then you will be submitting for a supplemental permit. That's because any change to the energy efficiency of a construction project requires a revised "Title 42" and that requires revised architecture and engineering drawings.
Having selected the Heat n Glo Cosmo 32 fireplace and then making sure we had all the permits in place to proceed, we waited until all the framing for our new ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) was complete and insulation in place. All Valley efficiently set up the date of installation, to send in the licensed and seasoned fireplace installers. Fireplace installers really need to know their business of course!
The two technicians arrived on time and set about first creating the chimney. As with any gas fireplace, the chimney is required and the technicians need to be familiar with each model in terms of chimney requirements. Does it vent out or up for example, can you have a bend in the pipe?
All valleys friendly tech's answered all my questions and worked with my contractor in terms of chimney placement. As it happened the city-certified energy efficiency consultant was on-site that day and they together confirmed fire-resistant lining requirements, backing boards, etc.
Once installed we could proceed with drywalling and mudding to get us one step closer to a completed project. It was important for the general contractor to know how to build the facade around the fireplace from both a compliance and a cosmetic point of view. Our Cosmo 32, for example, requires that the contractor drywall over the base panel for a pleasing aesthetic look.
The whole team, from our amazing architect Isabelle Duvivier, excellent general contractor DP Construction, and All Valley's expert fireplace installers did a fantastic job and we are now nearing project completion and looking forward to switching on our beautiful Cosmo 32 fireplace for the first time.
Thank you All Valley for all the help selecting the right fireplace for us, and for the great pricing and professional installation service.
You guys did a great job and next up will be another fireplace for the roof deck!
